Chinese cooking tours intended for general public and offered at group rates are not common. This is because it is hard to assemble a group of strangers to learn Chinese cooking at the same time following the same itinerary. People may agree on the theme, but they can have very different ideas as to which cities or regions in China they’d like to visit.
Also, travellers, especially those who already know much about Chinese cuisines, may disagree on the culinary styles they want to learn. After all, China is a huge country with a variety of regional cuisines to offer. Some prefer Sichuan (Szechuan) while others may be inclined toward Cantonese cuisine. For many, dishes like Peking roast duck (Shandong cuisine) may be more appealing.
Chinese Cooking Class as Option
There is no doubt that many travellers going to China are interested in learning Chinese cooking. That’s why we have been offering such Chinese cooking lessons as options. We do this by we collaborating with established cooking schools. A key requirement is that the teaching staff (chefs) speak English. The options are offered as pre- or post-tour extensions. Depending on exactly what you want to learn and how much time you have, the courses can cost anywhere between $50 to $500 per person.
